For the BREEAM Awards 2025, we’ve added four new categories to accommodate the growing number and variety of BREEAM certified projects around the world, making this year's BREEAM Awards our biggest yet.

The BREEAM Awards celebrate the most innovative and transformative BREEAM certified projects worldwide, as well as recognising the dedication of the teams behind them. This is a unique opportunity to showcase the environmental excellence and transformative impact of your project on a global stage.

To be eligible for an award, your project must have achieved BREEAM certification between 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024. Please refer to the judging criteria for tips and guidance to prepare your submission.

Asset Publisher

This category recognises an individual who has dedicated their career to driving ESG forward in Real Estate.

This award is nominated and voted for by the BREEAM community. It recognises individuals who have dedicated their career to driving ESG forward in the Real Estate sector.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Judges will assess long-term, quantifiable results such as reductions in carbon emissions, energy use, waste, or water consumption across multiple projects or properties.
  • Judges will look for evidence of initiatives that set new standards in areas like green building design, renewable energy integration, circular construction, or sustainable materials that have since been widely adopted in the industry.
  • Judges will consider the nominee’s influence on peers, companies, and regulatory bodies through leadership roles, policy contributions, public advocacy, or mentorship.
  • Judges will evaluate the nominee’s commitment to creating social value, such as enhancing community health, wellness, and inclusivity through sustainable projects.
  • Judges will look for an enduring impact, such as a body of work that has led to systemic changes, inspired industry-wide shifts, or created a lasting foundation for future sustainability efforts in real estate.

Key points:

  • This category is open to high impact professionals who are focused on sustainability and ESG topics in their roles. This also means high impact ESG career individuals who may have moved from a different field or career to focus in this area.

This category recognises earlier career professionals who are trailblazing in the field.

This award is nominated and voted for by the BREEAM community. It recognises earlier career professionals who are trailblazing in the field.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Judges will look for novel ideas, techniques, or initiatives introduced by the nominee that address specific environmental challenges within the real estate industry.
  • Judging will focus on the demonstrable outcomes achieved over the past year and the nominee’s contribution to sustainability benchmarks.
  • Judges will assess the nominee’s impact on their peers, clients, and the broader community in the fullest sense.
  • Judges will look for a clear vision for sustained impact, emphasizing the nominee’s alignment with industry standards like net-zero goals and continuous improvement.
  • Judges will assess how effectively the nominee champions sustainability, transparency, and ethical responsibility in their professional role.

Key points:

  • This category is open to earlier career professionals who are focused on sustainability and ESG topics in their roles. This also means early ESG career individuals who may have moved from a different field or career to focus in this area.

This category recognises the most popular BREEAM residential building project.

This could include HQM entries. This category can also receive prior winners from the US market & BRE China Awards.

This award is nominated and voted for by the BREEAM community and recognises the most popular project of its kind. This category can also receive prior winners from the US market & BRE China Awards.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM scheme categories.
  • Full integration of the design team to achieve an occupier-centric approach.
  • Promoting the key messages of sustainability to the end users.
  • Incorporating innovative approaches to the design solutions provided.
  • Then by public vote.

Key points:

  • Projects entered in this category may have also been nominated in other categories.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.
  • Videos must be submitted as part of the submission for this category if available.

This category recognises the most popular BREEAM project.
This award is nominated and voted for by the BREEAM community and recognises the most popular project of its kind. This category can also receive prior winners from the US market & BRE China Awards.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM scheme categories.
  • Full integration of the design team to achieve an occupier-centric approach.
  • Promoting the key messages of sustainability to the end users.
  • Incorporating innovative approaches to the design solutions provided.
  • Then by public vote.

Key points:

  • Projects entered in this category may have also been nominated in other categories.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.
  • Videos must be submitted as part of the submission for this category if available.

This category recognises a commitment to certify across multiple BREEAM lifecycle stages and giving an older building a new lease of life.
Celebrating the improvement journey of an existing building from the new-build phase, into use, and then refurbishment.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM categories in the assessments.
  • High levels of commitment demonstrated by the client or asset management teams to continuous improvement.
  • A strong educational focus for end users.
  • Incorporating new innovations in the solutions provided.
  • Evidence of the overall impact and savings achieved from the BREEAM lifecycle approach.

Key points:

  • The buildings entered into this category must have completed at least two consecutive, fully certified, BREEAM assessments as part of a lifecycle approach to continuous asset improvement.
  • The most recent certificate must have been issued in the 2024 calendar year.
  • Case study videos must be submitted as part of the submission for this category.

This category recognises the highest performing Assessor. Clean technical submissions. 3 or fewer resubs and no halts.

The presentation of the Assessor award is based on the highest average BREEAM assessment scores over the previous calendar year, subject to a minimum number of 5 assessments.

The judges are looking for: 

  • An organisation delivering high quality BREEAM assessments across all Assessors in the business.
  • Evidence of the resultant impact that has been achieved in guiding client portfolios on the journey to net zero.
  • A strong organisational focus on team development & training.
  • Employees that embody the principals of BREEAM in the work that they do.

Key points:

  • This category is focused on companies operating as BREEAM Assessor organisations. The relevant Assessor must be fully licensed at the time of submission and for the duration of 2024 as a minimum.
  • Videos must be submitted as part of the submission for this category.

This category recognises exemplary projects with large scale BREEAM commitment. 

Long-listed entries for this category are drawn from GRESB members who have the highest number of assets with sustainable building certification, based on percentage coverage and total number of certified assets.

The judges are looking for: 

  • An evidenced large-scale commitment to portfolio-scale BREEAM certification & ESG commitments.
  • High levels of commitment demonstrated by the client or asset management teams to continuous improvement.
  • A strong educational focus for occupiers and a strong commitment to social value initiatives.
  • Incorporating new innovations in the solutions provided.

Key points:

  • This category is focused on investment fund or portfolio scale entities, not specific BREEAM assessments.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.

This category recognises exemplary projects in this category from BREEAM certified scores.

Showcasing buildings that are delivering exemplary operational performance and comfort for their owners, investors, or tenants.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM In-Use categories.
  • High levels of commitment demonstrated by the client or asset management teams to continuous improvement.
  • A strong educational focus for occupiers.
  • Incorporating new innovations in the solutions provided.

Key points:

  • Projects entered into this category may also be entered into the ‘BREEAM Lifecycle Award’ or be voted for in the ‘Peoples’ Choice Award’ if appropriate, but no other category.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.

This category recognises exemplary projects in this category from BREEAM certified scores.

Showcasing buildings that are delivering exemplary operational performance and comfort for their occupants.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM In-Use categories.
  • High levels of commitment demonstrated by the client or asset management teams to continuous improvement.
  • A strong educational focus for occupiers.
  • Incorporating new innovations in the solutions provided.

Key points:

  • Projects entered into this category may also be entered into the ‘BREEAM Lifecycle Award’ or be voted for in the ‘Peoples’ Choice Award’ if appropriate, but no other category.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.

This category recognises exemplary projects in this category from BREEAM certified scores.

This category will recognise the best refurbishment of an existing building that has been given a new lease of life or repurposed for other uses.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM RFO categories.
  • Full integration of the design team to achieve an occupier-centric approach.
  • Promoting the key messages of sustainability to the end users.
  • Incorporating innovative approaches to the design solutions provided.

Key points:

  • Projects entered into this category may also be entered into the ‘BREEAM Lifecycle Award’ or be voted for in the ‘Peoples’ Choice Award’ if appropriate, but no other category.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.

This category recognises exemplary projects from BREEAM and Home Quality Mark (HQM) certified scores.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM New Construction categories.
  • Full integration of the design team to achieve an occupier-centric approach.
  • Promoting the key messages of sustainability to the end users.
  • Incorporating innovative approaches to the design solutions provided.

Key points:

  • Projects entered into this category may also be entered into the ‘BREEAM Lifecycle Award’ or be voted for in the ‘Peoples’ Choice Award’ if appropriate, but no other category.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.

This category recognises exemplary projects in this category from BREEAM certified scores.

Represented by a wide range of commercial buildings across many geographies, this category has projects in which performance and impact have been successfully delivered in practice.

The judges are looking for: 

  • Exemplary scores & performance across the BREEAM New Construction categories.
  • Full integration of the design team to achieve an occupier-centric approach.
  • Promoting the key messages of sustainability to the end users.
  • Incorporating innovative approaches to the design solutions provided.

Key points:

  • Projects entered into this category may also be entered into the ‘BREEAM Lifecycle Award’ or be voted for in the ‘Peoples’ Choice Award’ if appropriate, but no other category.
  • The project must have been certified within 2024 calendar year.
