Reducing impact at the BREEAM Awards
At BRE, we work with our customers and partners to amplify positive impact across the built environment, while reducing and eliminating harm. We are also committed to monitoring our own performance and continually improving how we operate.
For the BREEAM Awards 2026, our aim is to deliver a high-quality, enjoyable experience while keeping impact as low as possible. We are working with an event partner certified to ISO 20121 (Sustainable Events Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), and hosting the event at a BREEAM-certified venue.
The Peninsula London plays an important role in this approach. Designed and operated in line with high BREEAM standards, and with a BREEAM Excellent rating, the venue combines energy-efficient systems, renewable energy, and responsible water and materials management to create a lower-impact setting. This extends to food and operations, with a focus on responsible sourcing, waste reduction and low-impact catering. Menus prioritise seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, with plant-forward options readily available and certified products used where possible. Waste is actively managed through recycling streams and the conversion of food waste into energy, supporting a zero-to-landfill ambition.

Our event partner, Primary, delivers production and audio-visual services, with sustainability embedded throughout planning, delivery and post-event review. This includes efficient equipment use, reducing transport where possible, and responsible onsite practices.
We have also taken a more circular approach to materials, including awards trophies produced using responsibly sourced or recycled materials.
Together, these choices support an experience that both celebrates leadership across the built environment and reflects the standards and impact we aim to achieve.
