Digital Sustainability Innovation finalists

This category showcases projects that harness digital technologies and PropTech to transform sustainability in the built environment, enhancing building performance and streamlining certification. The summaries below, developed from finalist submissions and edited for clarity and consistency, highlight key approaches to leveraging digital innovation to improve sustainability outcomes.

Kalasatamasta Pasilaan tramway in Helsinki Finland
Digital innovation drives sustainability transparency in Helsinki tramway delivery

The Kalasatamasta Pasilaan tramway project in Helsinki, Finland, pioneered a unified digital operating model that revolutionised sustainability management in infrastructure delivery. Custom web-based tools (PROMA and ROM) integrated planning, risk management, and real-time environmental monitoring through comprehensive dashboards. The innovative Vastuullisuuden näkymä (sustainability view) provided transparent tracking of resource use, carbon emissions, and BREEAM category performance, enabling data-driven decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. This scalable blueprint has since been adopted across multiple Finnish infrastructure projects, establishing new standards for digital sustainability management.

Longevity Certifications Platform
AI-powered platform revolutionising BREEAM In-Use delivery at scale

Longevity Partners has developed an AI-powered certification platform transforming BREEAM In-Use from a resource-intensive process into an on-demand service for portfolio-scale delivery. Managing approximately 170 assessments across Canada, the United States, and Western Europe since Q4 2025, the platform reduces certification time and costs by 15–20% while enhancing client engagement. Available in eight languages, it centralises project management, automates evidence review, and provides real-time performance dashboards - making sustainable building certification more accessible across global portfolios in retail, hospitality and commercial sectors.

Prologis Park
Digital innovation transforms waste management across major logistics development

VolkerFitzpatrick deployed BRE SmartWaste and the beta SmartWaste Scan app across five industrial units at Prologis Park, Hemel Hempstead, UK. Using AI-powered optical character recognition technology to digitise waste transfer notes and delivery tickets, the project achieved over 95% landfill diversion, processing more than 80,000 tonnes of waste. The digital approach eliminated manual transcription errors, streamlined BREEAM certification across all five buildings, and contributed to a 25% embodied carbon reduction below industry benchmarks, demonstrating scalable innovation in logistics construction.

Sustainabot
AI-powered tool accelerating sustainability certification

Sustainabot is an innovative AI assistant developed by Sustainabot Technologies Kft. in partnership with Greenbors Consulting Kft. The platform uses advanced language models to analyse technical documentation for BREEAM certification projects, reducing document review time by approximately 70%. Successfully deployed across multiple Hungarian projects, including logistics centres, shopping centres and office buildings, Sustainabot streamlines compliance checks while maintaining transparency and traceability. This digital innovation enables assessors to focus on high-value environmental decision-making rather than repetitive document review, improving efficiency and consistency in sustainability certification.

Sustainix AI
AI-powered pre-assessment accelerates BREEAM certification pathway

Sustainix AI piloted an innovative digital pre-assessment tool for The Hoxton Amsterdam Hotel in the Netherlands, transforming the BREEAM In-Use certification process. The AI-powered platform analysed building data across methodology, capital expenditure modelling and risk feasibility, compressing weeks of manual scoping into a structured digital workflow. This data-driven approach enabled targeted improvements, uplifting the hotel’s certification from Good to Very Good. The success validated Sustainix AI’s technology, now being scaled across multiple European schemes with 20 organisations on the waiting list.
